Keep your fitness up during the holidays
Fitness is a vital part of every dancer’s life, as it is important to be fit and healthy with an active lifestyle. Holidays, however, are a down fall for many athletes, particularly dancers, as fitness levels usually decline during these long breaks. We have put together some tips on how to keep your fitness up during the break to ensure you are ready when dance starts up again.
1. Join a dance holiday program! AT Dance offers a holiday program on January 13th for all age groups, which is great ways not only to keep up fitness but also to obtain and maintain skills from dance throughout the year. Keep an eye out for more information. Or, if you want to try something new, it could be worth checking out other holiday programs for different sports.
2. Plan ahead. It is important to know when you are going to exercise and to stick to this plan so that you can fit in as much exercise as possible. Knowing the times of day and how often you will exercise is a point of consideration these holidays.
3. Find a friend to exercise with. Exercise buddies are fun, and you can sort out with your bestie or a group of friends when you will exercise, and maybe could head for a coffee or meal after your work out. Having a friend there will motivate you to exercise and give more of a reason to wake up and exercise.
4. Follow online tutorials. Many websites such as Youtube offer videos where you can follow along to an instructor on screen. Apps like Fitbit offer video tutorials for all levels of fitness.
5. Go outside in the sunshine. Doing activities outside in nature can be extremely good for both your physical and mental health. You play a game with friends, walk your dog or even practice your acro moves in the park.
6. Consider joining a gym. Gyms are clearly a great way to keep fit, and casual attendance is often not too expensive. Many gyms offer Zumba classes or other aerobic exercise which can be fun, too.
Health is important, so ensure to keep your exercise up and enjoy the holidays!
