Recreation Outside of Dance
Recreation outside of dance
It is very important to have balanced activities in day-to-day life. It’s not the end of the world if you’re sick or injured and can’t dance - there are so many things you can do! Or, you may just be wanting another activity aside from dance, as it is recommended that you have some other activities in mind for danceless days…
Other sports
While dance is an amazing activity and way of life, it cannot be your only one. Other sports offer exercise in different areas of the body, to maximise performance of every ligament, joint and muscle. Maybe your school offers trials for sports you may not have tried before, or there’s a park nearby that offers a range of other sports. On the holidays, if you’re looking for a fun sport to join in, Australian Sports Camp (ASC) offers a few hours-a-day learning program on a range of sports like ball sports, rock climbing, golf, horse riding, ice skating, rowing, sailing and table tennis. Active Activities' website can show you sports clubs nearby.
The Arts
Dance is an art, but is not limited to this. It’s great to try some of these activities in your own time:
Visual Arts
Painting, drawing, sculpting and colouring are not only fun, but are important to express creativity in your downtime. There are many great ideas online and in arts and crafts books. Scrapbooking is a great idea, and there are many useful and cool additions at local 2-dollar shops. Besides, if you’re still missing dance you’re welcome to draw a dancer!
Many dancers like to make costumes. While it may not sound too fun, sewing is actually a great way to spend your time out of dance. Some sewing workshops run for kids or adults in local areas, and could be worth checking out.
Music
Not only is listening to music entertaining, but it is also super fun to sing! Grab Singstar, blast out some tunes on the radio or turn on Spotify and belt out some Britney Spears! It’s a great way to get your mind off life. It may be worth it to invest in a music app or website to make your own music. Or, there’s always Garageband to make some tunes you can dance to when you’re better! Maybe now’s the perfect time to start learning a new instrument or perfect your skills on an existing one…
Writing
It is extremely important to be creative in everyday life. This can be done by expressing thoughts, feelings and ideas through words and writing. Writing stories, recounts and persuasive aid in other aspects of life. You can even win some money by entering stories into certain competitions, such as Write4Fun's poetry and short story competitions. You may want to start a journal.
