The Most Important Dance Class You Can Take

We’ve had many people ask us, “how can I become a better dancer?”

Obviously, determination, hard work and passion contribute to one’s success as a dancer. However, there is one style of dance that will help you in every other style.

Ballet.

Ballet provides the fundamental steps for all styles of dance. Styles such as contemporary, lyrical and jazz are heavily inspired by ballet and you will notice that many skills and steps are acquired from traditional ballet, including jetés, pirouettes and pose turns, only to mention a few.

Even styles such as hip hop, acro and tap, which are not usually directly associated with ballet, derive many of their fundamental steps from ballet.

It well known that once you dance ballet, you can dance any style much easier. A ballet foundation allows a dancer to understand and have the ability to dance in a wide range of ways, including slow, contemporary-like movements or to fast and upbeat songs used in jazz or hip hop.

Ballet helps in movement, structure and poise. Not only is it an excellent class to have to help in other dance styles, but it also helps in everyday life. Ballet builds stamina required for other activities and sports. It also has a large emphasis on strength, which has always, and will continue to be essential in the world of dance. It helps posture and simple everyday activities like sitting at a desk are reformed once you enter the world of ballet.

If you asked any of our ballerinas if they regret doing ballet, I know that every single one of them would respond with a definite no.

Finally, ballet is beautiful. Ballet is a form of art and something that becomes increasingly important as we move into the 22nd century. There’s nothing like watching graceful ballerinas leap across the stage, seeming so effortless and agile.

The best part is that you can be one of those graceful ballerinas.

AT Dance offers ballet classes to all ages and abilities. Please see our classes we offer page to learn more about ballet as a style, or take a look at our timetable to see which class best suits you.
